Peer Mentor Induction: onboarding videos for UNSW's student mentors
From this project
The brief
Overview
UNSW's Central Peer Mentoring team inducts a new cohort of student mentors every year, and needed onboarding videos that could welcome them properly: a warm introduction to the program plus real answers to the questions new mentors actually ask.
The brief came in mid November with a hard deadline before the end of the year, so the whole production, from first call to delivered masters, ran inside three weeks.
The approach
Our approach
We shot the full series in a single day on the Kensington campus, scouting locations with the team beforehand and settling on spots like the Alumni Park steps and the village green so the videos feel like the campus new mentors are about to work on.
Alongside the program introduction, we filmed current student mentors answering three questions in their own words: their advice for new mentors, practical ways to support students, and where to go for extra support. Peer to peer, which is the whole point of the program.
The result
The outcome
Four finished videos delivered ahead of the end-of-year deadline: a program introduction and three Q&A films, ready to slot straight into mentor induction and training.
One shoot day, a tight run sheet built with the UNSW team, and a set of videos the program can reuse every time a new cohort of mentors comes through.
